How do I find other Danes in my Linkedin Network?
This is a question we often receive here at DABGO after having sent an invitation, out of the blue, to a fellow Dane to join our rapidly growing network. We will get comments like “How did you find me? I have been here for 3 years and not run into anyone”.
Well, it certainly does not have to be that way. There are plenty of opportunities to strengthening you hopefully already great local network with an equally strong global Danish business network for the more effective combination.
Let us start with Linkedin. Your Linkedin network consists of your direct contacts, two degrees away and three degrees away. When you look for others, you should not just consider you direct contacts but certainly also 2nd and 3rd links.
In my case I currently have 199 direct contacts. These 199 contacts are connected with 106,300 people. The 106,300 contacts in my second link are then connected with 5,576,500 people. This gives me a total network of 5,683,000 great contacts when you combine my first, second and third link.
The entire Linkedin network is just over 26 million users. We believe approximately 250,000 are Danish and a great number are abroad like us.
Linkedin has a good search option that allows you to search by name, company, title, location and keywords. The search function is found under the menu option “People” in the top left corner of your Linkedin home page.
To search for Danes you have to know the unique identifiers. We are pretty lucky on that front as our names and language are fairly unique. Here are a couple of examples of search terms:
Names:
Our dear Viking ancestors helped us out on this one. 50% of all Danes have one of 20 last names. They are:
Jensen, Nielsen, Hansen, Pedersen, Andersen, Christensen, Larsen, Sørensen, Rasmussen, Jorgensen, Petersen, Madsen, Kristensen, Olsen, Thomsen, Christiansen, Poulsen, Johansen, Knudsen, Mortensen
When you search for these names you are rather likely to run into a friendly Dane.
Key words:
There are also some great keywords that will help you find Danes. Names of educational institutions also work very well. Some of them are:
Københavns universitet, Syddansk universitet, Aarhus Universitet, Aalborg Universitet, Danmarks Tekniske Universitet, Roskilde Universitetscenter and IT-Universitetet i København
There are also specific words often used in Danes Linkedin profiles. Some of these are:
Tekniske, DTU, Folkeskole, Højskole, Privatskole, Skole, Danmarks and Dansk
With these terms you are sure to expand your Danish network. Try it out. See who you can find and remember to send them an invitation to join DABGO so we can continue to develop strength and capability in our network.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this.
Thank you and happy networking.
