DABGO ANZ was established in 2007. Since then we have had an amazing growth and are proud to announce that we have now reached more than 100 members. A number we hope will continue to grow.
The number now stands at 102 illustrating the size of the DABGO network in ANZ, which is the first network for Danish professionals in A NZ. Our network, which until recently was only online, went “live” in February 2009 with the introduction of a ‘Stambord’ in Melbourne.
The combination of an online and a physical network accommodates the different needs that exist among the DABGO members. Some are mainly interested in an online and informal network, whereas others are interested in getting actively involved and meeting and exchanging ideas with others on a regular basis. So with this combination, both options are available. It is only the individual member, who sets the limits. New monthly ‘Stambord’ events are planned for Melbourne and the introduction of a ‘Stambord’ in Sydney is also under way.
The majority of our members come from Sydney (35%). Others come from:
Melbourne: 30%
South Brisbane area: 8.8%
Perth: 8.8%
New Zealand: 7.8%
The member base also covers areas such as Townsville, Cairns, Canberra, Adelaide and Tasmania.

‘Stambord’ in Melbourne
DABGO Australia took its first step out of the online world and into the “real” world on February 4th 2009.
A group of Danish business professionals, all members of DABGO, met for lunch at Nick’s Bar in Melbourne. Stambordet was initiated by Jan Ravnholt and Niels Jensen, who are some of the driving forces behind DABGO Australia.
Mainly professional but also general topics were discussed with great interest. Business opportunities, career developments and relationship building were some of the themes.
The next event will be held in March at the same location:
Nick’s Bar, 207 Queen Street, Melbourne CBD, at 12:30 pm.

Melbourne is currently the only location in Australia where a Stambord is being held, however, some networking events have been held in Sydney by Cai Kjaer. A monthly Sydney Stambord will be introduced fairly soon. This will take place every first Wednesday of the month at around 6.30pm for a couple of hours. More information will follow soon.

DABGO Australia is now live, and open for you to join!
We have been working hard to make this network group possible. And it will be with your help that DABGO Australia & New Zealand will grow to become a success and an active tool in creating new opportunities for you and the other members. So please take some time to forward the www.dabgo.com link to all the Danes you know in the countries listed on the front page of the DABGO website. Note that membership is free.
On this site you will find tips & tricks on networking, using Linkedin, articles and getting the most of your membership.
Our ambition for DABGO is to contribute to increasing Danish export, acceleration of Danish business peoples’ careers internationally and an increase in international investments in Danish companies and Denmark.
We are looking for global and local sponsors and funding from institutions – i.e. Udenrigsministeriet, globaliseringsrådet, eksportrådet and similar organizations – as well as various trusts, who would be interested in supporting the growth of DABGO globally. The funding will go to adding more value to the entire network, and coordinate local networking events with focus on generating new connections and business opportunities. If you know of anyone who can be of help in accelerating this process, then please have them contact me at dan@dabgo.ch.
We are looking for people who are interested in actively participate in growing DABGO Australia & New Zealand, please send me a mail if you can dedicate some spare time.

&otDABGO members can contact each other directly via Linkedin “InMail” which sends an e-mail to the other DABGO members inbox on Linkedin. This function does NOT allow other DABGO members to see each others e-mail addresses. To see another Linkedin members e-mail address and other contact information you need to be connected directly. You can also choose to ask for an Introduction through a shared connection.
Here is an example of how you can find who your searching for and how you can contact that person.
Let’s say you need a Photographer for a job, but do not know any photographers, then let’s try a search on Linkedin within the DABGO group. Remember always to try to give business to fellow DABGO members.
When you login into your Linkedin frontpage you will find the following functions on the lower right hand side of the page. Click on “See all members”

You will now see a complete list of all DABGO members:

In the upper right hand corner you will find the “Refine Search” button. Click it to make a more specific search.

Make sure that the “Limit search to your groups” is checked, and then enter “Photographer” in the “Titel” search box, or make a broader search by using the “Keywords” search box.

You will get a search result, and you can now click the profile that best matches your criteria and contact the person via InMail or via Introduction.

As our personal contact database increases, it becomes a challenge to manage. Here is my 2 cents on how to create a well functioning personal contact management set-up for your private use:

- Install Plaxo + the Outlook toolbar
- Create a Linkedin account + install the Outlook toolbar
- Use Outlook to its full extend. Check the presentation “Outlook Features for Contact Management - 7 Steps to Success“
- For quick overview of contacts directly in your inbox install “Priasoft Outlook Contact View Add-in for Outlook“
With this set-up you will gain a quick overview of a contact directly in your Outlook Inbox view and automated update functions combined with easy to import/export/update/edit contacts.

Most people acknowledge that networking - creating a fabric of personal contacts to provide support, feedback, insight, and resources is an essential activity for an ambitious manager. Indeed, it’s a requirement even for those focused simply on doing their current jobs well. For some, this is a distasteful reality. Working through networks, they believe, means relying on who you know rather than what you know, a hypocritical, possibly unethical, way to get things done.
But as INSEAD’s Herminia Ibarra and Mark Hunter point out in this article published in the Harvard Business Review (January 2007), even those who understand that networking is a legitimate and necessary part of their job can be discouraged by the payoff because they are doing it in too limited a fashion. On the basis of a close study of 30 emerging leaders, the authors outline three distinct forms of networking.

A new study circulating through hedge funds and university campuses points to the powerful role that old-school ties play in the world of investing.
Mutual fund managers invest more money in companies that are run by people with whom they went to college or graduate school than in companies where they have no such connections.
